Starting therapy is both a significant as well as a deeply personal decision. While it is a step toward understanding yourself more deeply and finding a path to better mental wellbeing, many of us may struggle with understanding the concept of therapy. Many people wonder what therapy might feel like—whether it’s safe to open up, whether it’s a space they can truly be themselves and does it help in anyway? These are extremely important and relevant questions, and this blog will help you understand what to expect when you begin individual therapy at Thrive with Komal.
What is Individual/ Personalised Therapy?
Individual therapy or Personalised therapy is a collaborative process where you and I will work together to explore, understand as well as conquer the struggles that make everyday life, relationships and mental wellbeing difficult.
At Thrive with Komal, therapy is rooted in trauma-informed, inclusive care. I understand how our experiences, relationships, and environments shape us and the ways in which we can continue to carry adverse and difficult experiences throughout our lives, if left unprocessed. Together we will approach your healing with empathy, respect and nuanced understanding.
Therapy here is never about fitting you into a mold—it’s about understanding your unique context and working at a pace that feels right for you.
What can i expect during therapy sessions?
Just like every individual who walks through the doors of therapy, each therapeutic relationship as well as the therapeutic work is unique. However, certain elements remain the same to ensure that each client receives not just tailored work but a common experience of best practices in psychotherapy. So, here’s what you can expect when we meet:
A Secure and Compassionate Space: From the moment we begin, the space is yours—a space free from judgment, where your thoughts and feelings are valued and held with care. You aren't pressurised to speak neither are you expected to hold silence. Here, you will be encouraged to show up in ways that feel authentic to you.
Exploration and Reflection: As personal growth is germane to the therapeutic relationship, we will gently explore the concerns you bring, whether they are rooted in the past or unfolding in the present, at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Together, we’ll actively work towards building a deeper and nuanced understanding of your psyche, aiding you to continue the therapeutic process long after the termination of therapy.
Integrative Practices: I follow a client centric approach that is integrative and eclectic in nature. There is no one size one fits all strategy to manage well being and hence our work would be tailored to suit your individual needs. Drawing on evidence based practices in the field, we will work with a range of approaches and tools. Based on what resonates with you as well as works best for your well being, we would explore tools like mindfulness, somatic breath-work, CBT exercises, insight oriented work, developmental, relational and strength-based narrative work. .
Depth and Growth through strengths: Well, there is also another caveat i haven't been completely honest about. Therapy is all the above things yet it is also a process of discovery, about creating change that feels authentic. This means we’ll focus not just on managing challenges but actively build on the hopes and dreams surrounding the life you want by actively fostering your strengths.

I encourage you to explore the About page on my website to learn more about my approach, values, and the type of mental health care I provide.
Complete the intake form – This form gathers essential details about your concerns, goals, and background. It allows me to assess whether my therapeutic approach aligns with your needs. All information shared in the intake form is strictly confidential and remains between you and me as your therapist. You can use the button in the service section or at the bottom of this blog to fill out the intake form.
Request a session slot – After completing the intake form, you can submit a request for a session slot. This does not guarantee an appointment but signals your interest in beginning therapy.
Therapist-client fit assessment – Once I review your intake form, I will assess whether we are a good fit for therapy.
If your concerns align with my expertise, I will reach out with details about session scheduling and payment so we can move forward.
If I believe another therapist may better support your needs, I will provide referrals to professionals who may be a better match.
